Busses from the finish area at Del Valle Regional Park will depart promptly at 6:30 am.

The race will begin at Mission Peak Regional Preserve at 8:00 am.

Transportation & Parking

The best and smartest way to deal with logistics and parking is to begin your morning by driving to the finish area and taking the bus to the start. Take whatever you need on the bus, we will transport items from the starting area back to the finish.

Busses depart at 6:30 am from the Lichen Bark Picnic Area in Del Valle Regional Park, 7000 Del Valle Road, Livermore, CA. There is a $6 park entry fee which will be collected at the gate. The race begins at 8:00 am at Mission Peak Regional Preserve, Stanford Ave. and Vinehill Terrace, Fremont, CA.

If you feel compelled to drive to the start, please make arrangements with your crew or other runners to get a ride back to Fremont. We’ll try to help you find a ride, but there’s no guarantee that we will be successful.

Check-In

All runners must check in at the start in Fremont between 7:00 and 7:45 am. Runners taking the bus will check in when the bus unloads at the start. Race goody bags with your shirt and other cool stuff will be distributed at the finish after you complete your run.

Time Limit & Cutoff Times

Runners must exit the Sunol aid station (9.11 miles) by 10:45am (2:45 after the 8:00am start). Transportation back to the start, or to the finish, will be provided for runners not making this cut-off. 

Runners must exit the Backpack Area aid station (12.48 miles) by 11:30am (3:30 after the 8:00am start). Runners not making it to the Backback aid station by 11:30am will be retired from race and must return (walk) back to Sunol for transportation to the Finish area.

Runners must complete the course by 6:00pm (10 hours after the 8:00am start). Runners finishing after 6:00pm will receive their goodie bag, but will not receive a finisher’s award or be listed as a finisher in the official results.

Starting Early

If you do not believe you can finish the course within the cut-off times, we allow provision for a 7:00 early start. Runners planning to start at 7:00am are required to indicate this when registering for the race. Runners taking the early start also do so with the knowledge that the aid station opening times are scheduled according to the timing of the 8:00am start. Bus transportation to the start is not available for early-start runners. Runners taking the early start are not eligible for age group awards unless the award would otherwise go unclaimed due to lack of finishers in the category.

Drop Bags

We will transport items from the start to the finish area. Due to the remote locations of the aid stations, there are no provisions for drop bags on the course

Crew Access

Aside from the Start and Finish, the only crew access on the course is at Sunol (9.11 miles). This is also the site of a major aid station. Note: There is a fee for Sunol park entry.

Weather

Plan for heat. Temperatures are usually in the 80’s to mid-90’s but have topped 100 in some years. Be prepared! Wear a hat, bring your sunglasses, slather on the sun screen. By all means - carry water. Smart runners will carry at least two bottles. 

Aid Stations

We will have seven staffed aid stations on the course with varying types of fluids and fuels available. There is also one self-service water stop. See Course Info for details. 

Trail Notes

Sign-In Boards: You are not required use the sign-in-out boards that you will see along the trail.

Gates: When you go through a gate, close it after yourself.

Garbage: Absolutely no littering! Please respect the trail. 

Portable Toilets: There are toilets at the Start, Sunol, and at the Finish.

Course Markings: The course is marked with 4x4 directional posts displaying the Ohlone Wilderness Trail emblem. Hot pink ribbon and flour arrows are used to mark the course. 

Backpackers/Horses: Use courtesy and common sense when approaching either backpackers and/or horses. Move the the side of the trial and allow the horses to pass. Do not run past or startle them in any way. When in doubt, ask the rider what to do.

Sweep Runners

There will be sweep runners following the last official runner. These runners will provide assistance if problems arise or if a runner is injured, and remove trail markings.

Awards

Age group awards and finisher awards will be available at the completion of your run. Awards are three deep in all age categories.

Dri-Release Shirts

All race participants will receive a dri-release Ohlone Wilderness Run shirt. 

Rides Back to the Start

Rides back to the start are not provided. If you find yourself stuck at the finish we will do our best to arrange a ride for you, but we really would prefer that you take the bus.
